Mercer 2018 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

The Mercer family has farmed their land for generations and planted the first vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills a half century ago. Their newest wines are fine representations of the AVA's terroir, and well-priced given the quality. This 2018 Reserve Cab (being previewed here) is firm and balanced, with black fruits, clean earth and tannins that bring a touch of black tea astringency. It's solid and persistent, and drank nicely even after being open for three full days. Advance notice! – this is due for October release and should sell out quickly. Check the website for updates.

217 cases; 14.5%; $42 (Horse Heaven Hills)
